Venue: Virtual. 21 June 2021 marks the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). As we blow out the candles on the birthday cake, what do we wish for? While advancements have been made since the first meeting of the CSW in New York, in 1947, there has been little to no progress in many areas. And the gains made for some are not shared equally by all women. The World Economic Forum recently calculated that, at the current rate of change, it will take another 135 years to achieve gender equality generally – and 257 years to achieve gender equality in economic opportunity and participation. Speakers include: Moderator, Marjorie Margolies, Head of US Delegation to UN Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing 1995), Founder/President, Women's Campaign International, Former Member of Congress; Asa Regner, UN Women (Commission on the Status of Women), Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, UN System Coordination and Programme Results; Ambassador Melanne Verveer, First US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues, Former US Representative to UN Commission on the Status of Women; and Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Director of the International Bar Association.
